In deepest Neukolln, three times a week, we get the day off to a roaring start by tuning into a legend of the soul and dance scene Dave Thorley who broadcasts live from his apartment not so far from Das wasteland records HQ.
Dave Thorey has just celebrated one year of his very groovy, morning Radio show, Crossing the Tracks, where he treats us to his extensive knowledge and impeccable taste of the very best rare soul and dance tracks that are guaranteed to get the day off to the best possible start.
The show has built up a global audience of regular listeners Dave calls La Familiar in and has the feel of an intimate house party with Dave paying respects to the artists who make up his diverse and hard to find vinyl collection.
More than just a DJ and serious record collector Dave has made many a journey Stateside in search of Soul treasure often coming back with enough wild stories of his travels to fill a book. He made his name playing at legendary Northern soul clubs such as Wigan Casino, Yates and The Mecca and later the Stafford all-nighters where he was known as ‘the saviour of the scene’.
Back to the present, Dave’s innate desire to unearth the tracks covered by decades of dust were assisted through the birth of the digital age where he created a specialist online business sourcing hard to find soul and dance music on vinyl as well as being an in-demand DJ all over Europe & the United States.
He now calls Berlin his home and rekindled his ‘Crossing the tracks’ show from its Gloucester’s GFM beginning’s playing anything from soul, funk, and gospel, to disco, boogie and house. Tune in and we dare you not to dance.
